Dear all
2020 has undoubtedly been a very tough year. However, as we put this year behind us, there are some glimmers of hope. We can expect the first round of Covid vaccinations early in 2021, and as the Health Secretary assured me recently, there will be “plenty of vaccine for North Norfolk”. Residents and staff in our care homes will be amongst the first to receive the new vaccine. Clinical trials are beginning for a second vaccine with an even higher success rate, so we have every reason to hope things will be brighter from January onwards.
The government’s package of financial support has been one of the best in the world and, where I have been able to, it has been a privilege to help so many businesses and people get the support they need. My team have worked flat out helping residents and my office is always here for advice and support.
My highlight has to be my summer tour and seeing so many residents. During that time the very busy ‘staycation’ summer which was so good for our local businesses has helped, and there are some early indications that the UK economy will be back on track sooner than any of us could have expected.
North Norfolk has been fantastic in keeping the rate of infection low, but more recently we had to accept a four-week lockdown to help protect the NHS in the county as a whole. This has been difficult for us to accept but, by continuing to play our part, we can hasten an end to the difficulties this year has thrown at us.
However you celebrate this year, I wish you a very happy, safe Christmas and a wonderful start to 2021.
