Tonight Duncan spoke as part of the Adjournment Debate on changes to Small Breweries' Relief. The proposed changes will have a disproportionate effect on small breweries such as Moongazer Ales in Hindringham.
The relief, originally introduced to encourage a growth in the number of smaller breweries producing craft ales, provided much-needed encouragement to these businesses. The proposal to lower the threshold for the relief means that many breweries which are succeeding, having built themselves from the ground up, now risk being penalised for that success. Duncan and other MPs are asking the government to reconsider these changes, particularly at a time when - due to Covid-19 - businesses need as much support as possible from central government.
