This week, the Book Trust will be distributing over 740,000 'Time to Read' packs to children across the country, reaching the families of children who started school in the most unprecedented circumstances this year. They will also be celebrating the importance of reading together during Time to Read Week, which takes place between 19th and 25th October. During this week, there is a range of of online activities to bring together families from communities together to inspire them to continue reading together with their children at this crucial time in their lives.
Shared reading is a vital way for families to create a safe space for children to express themselves as they grapple with anxiety, loneliness, making friends, dealing with change and so much more. And we know that children who are read to at home in their early years are more likely to become high achievers at the end of primary school.
