Today Duncan visited Hedgehog Haven in North Walsham and spoke to Marion Grimes about how to protect our prickly friends this summer.
Marion's top tips are:
- Don't try and keep them as pets. Not only is it against the law as hedgehogs are a protected and endangered species, you won't have the specialist knowledge to know how to look after them properly.
- If you come across a nest with hoglets in it, wait an hour or so to see if the mother comes back to the nest.
- If she doesn't, put the hoglets in a box, cover them over with a towel, and keep them warm.
- Seek specialist help from Hedgehog Haven or another hedgehog rescue centre.
