Could you be a Community First Responder?
First Responders are volunteers trained by the NHS to attend certain types of emergency call in the areas in which they live or work. Their aim is to reach the scene of a potential life-threatening emergency in the first vital minutes before an ambulance crew arrives. Their role is to help stabilise the patient and provide the appropriate care until the more skilled ambulance ambulance crew arrives on scene to take over the treatment.
Living, as we do, in a rural and spread out location like North Norfolk, we know that it can sometimes take time for an ambulance to arrive. Community First Responders are therefore a vital first line of defence in helping to provide urgent care quickly.
Criteria
Anyone can become a Community First Responder, but you must:
- be physically fit
- be aged between 18 and 70
- agree to a disclosure and barring service (DBS) check
- have a sympathetic and caring nature
- agree to undertake training, which is provided
- have a full driving licence and access to a roadworthy car
Recruitment is open to all existing groups, but there is currently a particular need for new volunteers in the Wells area.
