Cromer Green Spaces is a community initiative which aims to nurture nature in our urban coastal setting, and make the beautiful town of Cromer better for wildlife. Every green space in Cromer is important for wildlife - none more so than our own gardens.
New for 2021 is a competition looking to find the best gardens for nature in the town. Big or small; your whole garden or special corners - all qualify. But to provide maximum benefit to wildlife, three key elements are:
- water - this could be a pond, bird-bath, or even a simple hedgehog drinking dish
- food comes from nectar-rich flowers and plants for insects; berry-bearing bushes; or just a well-stocked bird table
- shelter can be provided through the vegetation we grow or it can be purpose made - a 'bug hotel' or bird box.
Wildlife gardening can be great fun for the kids too, so why not encourage them to create a special place for wildlife around your home?
To enter, all you need to do is send an email, including a description of your special space for nature (no more than 150 words) and up to five photos to [email protected].
Entries must be received by Friday 18th June. Gardens will be judged by a local panel of experts in July, and the results announced during Carnival Week. There are prizes for the winner and runners up, and a trophy to celebrate your achievements. But the biggest winner - of course - will be our local wildlife!
