Today, Duncan Baker spoke in the House of Commons as part of a debate on new legislation to close tax avoidance loopholes.
Duncan highlighted the improvements to tax collection under the Conservatives, including the introduction of real-time PAYE and other digital services. He reminded MPs that the wealthiest 1% pay 27% of all tax income and should therefore not be accused of not paying their fair share, and that it was currently legal forms of tax avoidance, not illegal tax evasion, which requires action.
The Conservative government proposes to close loopholes in tax legislation, to ensure that large multi-national companies are prevented from avoiding paying their fair share of tax to the UK.
