A new roundabout for Sheringham is a step closer today after the County Council begins work on a draft business case.
New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership has invited Norfolk County Council to put forward a business case in support of the proposed A148/Holway Road roundabout. The project is then set to be added to an ‘investment pipeline’: a list of ‘shovel-ready’ projects to be completed as soon as the funding becomes available.
Judy Oliver, County Councillor for Sheringham, Upper Sheringham, and Beeston Regis said:
From surveys over the past few years, we know a new roundabout on this dangerous junction continues to be the No 1 improvement Sheringham residents would like to see. It has massive benefits not only for residents, but for businesses and for our many visitors who come to enjoy what the town has to offer. The fantastic work of the Carnival Association in organising events year round, the brand-new Splash, the North Norfolk Railway, and so much more – the town really needs this roundabout. I am looking forward to consulting with our parish and town council partners on the business case.
Duncan Baker, MP for North Norfolk, said:
Many drivers in and around Sheringham are so nervous about using the A148/Holway Road junction that they avoid it altogether – increasing the flow of traffic on our more minor roads. Judy has worked tirelessly to bring the new roundabout to fruition, and she has my full support in ensuring this vital new road safety measure is built. It will be of enormous benefit to everyone who lives and works in Sheringham.
