North Norfolk MP Duncan Baker is one of twelve Conservative MPs to be appointed as Small Business Ambassadors by Amanda Milling, Conservative Party Co-Chairman.
The team, picked to represent Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, and each region of England, was launched to coincide with Small Business Saturday, celebrated for the eighth year running on 5th December. This year’s event was considered all the more important after the exceptionally difficult year traders have had due to the pandemic.
Amanda Milling said:
Small businesses are the lifeblood of our communities and now, more than ever, it’s important we make our country the best in the world to start and grow a business, and ensure Britain’s businesses can unleash their enormous potential.
Research for Small Business Saturday found 59% more people supported small firms than was the case before the Covid-19 outbreak. Last year, 17.6m people shopped locally on the day, spending more than £800m.
Duncan said:
I’m delighted to have been appointed Small Business Ambassador for the East of England. Since my election I’ve championed our small businesses in North Norfolk, and have been supporting them through the pandemic. This appointment will enable me to use my background in business and finance to directly help our business leaders in the East of England, and to help the government understand better their needs as we rebuild in a post- Covid world – and to explore the many exciting new opportunities available to them post-Brexit.
